John Tamboer graduated from the College of Business at Michigan State University (B.A., 1985), and from Thomas M. Cooley Law School (J.D., 1988). He served in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps of the United States Navy for five years where he conducted trials and served naval commanders in various parts of the world. John entered private practice in 1994 with a special emphasis on estate planning, business planning, and probate.
John's professional memberships include the State Bar of Michigan, the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan, the United States Court of Military Appeals, the Grand Rapids Bar Association, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He is also a member of the Probate and Estate Planning Sections of the State Bar of Michigan and the Grand Rapids Bar Association. John has served as chairman of the Lawyer Referral and Information Service Committee and the Solo/Small Firm Section of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, and as president of the Kiwanis Club of Grand Rapids. He is also active in the YMCA "Project Mentoring" program to mentor disadvantaged children.
John holds a Certificate of Completion in the areas of estate planning and probate issued by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan. John focuses his practice in the areas of estate planning, probate, and elder law.
